Join us at 6pm on Christmas Eve

All are invited to come as  you are and join us for a family service as we worship and celebrate the coming of our Savior, Jesus!

What to Expect

You can expect to be greeted warmly from the front doors to the Sanctuary. We will have friendly faces, a warm atmosphere, and some light refreshments waiting for you.

Where do I go?

We are located at 115 Iris Drive in Salinas. We are located across the street from the Rodeo grounds. Enter the parking lot from either Iris Drive or Gardenia Drive.

Are kids invited?

Yes! We are planning on having a family service, so children of all ages are invited to join us in the Sanctuary for the full service. We will not have Refuge Kids available, but the Nursing Babies room will be open for anyone who needs it.

I don't know anything about Jesus

That's totally fine! We would love to meet you and share with you about Jesus and why we celebrate him. There's some more information on this page or you can click the link below to go to our Know Jesus page to get started!

What is Advent?

Adventus - the Latin word that Advent is derived from, means "arrival" or "coming." During Advent, Christians around the world celebrate the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Celebrations are marked by remembering what was foretold about Jesus and the longing Israel felt as she waited for her Messiah.

What is done during Advent?

Advent is a time of remembrance and preparation. Advent begins four Sundays before Christmas Eve and is celebrated each Sunday leading up to Christmas Day. Traditionally, each week of advent is devoted to four themes: hope, faith, joy, and peace.

Each of the four themes can be reflected upon as you practice the basic practices of the Christian faith: reading the Word of God, spending time in prayer, and worshipping the Lord. These practices are also excellent ways to prepare your heart to celebrate Jesus through confessing and rejoicing.

Reading the Word

We recommend reading the Gospel accounts of the birth of Christ as well as old and new testament scriptures regarding Christ. Here is a sample reading plan for the Advent Season:

Week One: Hope - Focus on Scriptures that foretold Jesus' birth and life.
Isaiah 9:2-7, Isaiah 40:3-5, Isaiah 11:1-10, Genesis 3:15, and Micah 5:2

Week Two: Faith - Focus on Scriptures that detail the actions of Mary and Joseph as they received the news that Jesus was coming.
Luke 1

Week Three: Joy - Focus on Scriptures about the birth of Jesus
Matthew 1 and 2 and Luke 2

Week Four: Peace - Focus on Scriptures about the fulfillment of Christ and what it means for us that He came, died, and was resurrected.
John 1, Galatians 4:4-7,  and Titus 3:4-8

Spending time in prayer

If you have never spent time in prayer, the practice is incredibly simple. You talk to God the same way you would talk to anyone else. A good structure for prayer is to begin by thanking God for all He has done for us, laying out your requests or what is on your mind, spending  time in confession of your sins, and then closing by rejoicing in the work of Christ.
